12/29/2023 0 Comments Ravio cosplay![]() Instead of just shamelessly plugging my article (like I am now) about why I love Ravio and that being the end of that, I ended up talking about the many personality quirks that make him just so gosh darn great. The challenge of creating a costume is one of the things that makes it fun, so I could easily go off about that for hours. The judges asked me questions about the process of making my cosplay, which was the easiest part. I’m a goofball alright, but where Ravio comes off as charismatic and adorable I feel like I just come off as a dope. Being in costume usually does help a lot as I attempt to stay in character, but admittedly, Ravio was always a little more difficult for me to verbally portray. No matter how many times I do this, I still get nervous. My two friends were called up to the stage first and I went right after. The show went on and we all went up together. This time I’d be accompanied by two of my friends which made it all the more better. Whether I win or lose, it’s always a good time, so no regrets. It’s always fun for me to show off my own work as well as admire that of the other contestants. I had planned from the start to join the cosplay contest. All I wanted to do was dress up and have fun, and that was exactly what I did. I was so ready to cosplay as my favorite Lorule shopkeeper! I had spent a few hours the day before remaking my fleece hat to mimic Ravio’s bunny hood and I couldn’t wait to try out the new green contacts I had bought specifically for this cosplay. I eagerly woke up, went to work, and then headed back to my parent’s house where my cosplay awaited. The Zelda series has touched our lives in many ways, and just as Hyrule has endless stories to share, so do our writers! These could be the times we first fell in love with a game, were moved by the events of the story or actions of a character, felt triumphant when overcoming a tough boss or challenge, or we had an experience so unique that the adventure truly became our own. The choice makes this cosplay stand out, and placed here in this weekly feature.Realm of Memories is a series where we reflect on our absolute favorite moments in The Legend of Zelda games. The helmet could not look better, even if it is not the canon material of a kind of bunny hood. The belt is the most well done out of the entire robe section, the seams are well finished and the red edge is relatively straight.Īll in all, this cosplay is a mix of amazing and adequate. Perhaps Pol Nado only had so much material and could not make an entire scarf. The scarf turned into a collar is a creative choice, though the result is less than satisfying. It is unfortunate that the surging on the inside of the sleeve is so distractingly white. Surging the edge is the least that could possibly be done in order to keep the fabric from fraying. It was likely cut from a homemade pattern, and the stitch work could only have benefited from a little more time and effort. This is not a fault, however, as finding the right colour for a cosplay is extremely difficult. The robe is made from one of the cheapest broadcloths to be found in the average fabric store. ![]() As his chosen profession appears to be photographer, this is unsurprising. The robe section, however, makes it painfully clear that Pol Nado is no true tailor. The addition of a transparent black film over the eyes is a clever way to retain vision without taking the helmet off. The eyes are especially true to the original, as each cut is very clear and sharp. The added touch of a high-gloss paint adds to the overall look of the helmet, making it seem very realistic. Such unique material choices are often only made by an experienced cosplayer. We can only guess at the materials used for the helmet, though it appears to be made in triangular pieces – perhaps to smooth the look of a rougher styrofoam underneath. Pol Nado’s construction of this helmet is clearly the strongest element of his Ravio cosplay design. The choice to create a helmet rather than a type of cloth hat is certainly unique to this cosplay, if not to the original character. ![]() Pol Nado’s cosplay is no less great for the lack of information, however. For all that we could find, we have no idea if this costume is handmade or if Pol Nado purchased the costume from an unknown source. Nothing is known of this mysterious cosplayer save that he is a French Canadian photographer and attended the Geekfest in Montréal last year. Ravio from A Link Between Worlds by Pol Nado.
